Oh perhaps it’s just a phase.
The happiness she’s faking.
For she must be doing so.
One can’t simply go from cutting,
To being happy for no reason.
But did she really have reason to cut?
Sure, things in life got tough.
Certain things made her say, “Wait, what?”
But happiness?
Such is not known by her kind.
Tormented thoughts resounding.
That’s all that can obtain her mind.
Is it not?
Or perhaps a few fears can join in.
Making her worries twirl.
Every emotion inside spin.
Happiness seems too foreign a feat.
Could she contain such a feeling?
She claims her heart is soaring.
But she secretly thinks it’s fleeting.
Why would happiness remain with her?
Something is bound to go astray.
All she can do now is hope for the best;
Sit silently and pray.

  1. Very powerful and sad poem. Great job!

  2. This feels as if the writer is giving themselves permission to be happy and then, hesitates in ase it is taken away from them so, is caught in a between world of not knowing how to truly feel for fear of losing it.
If the person cuts themselves, I feel so sad. Cutting truly doesn’t stop the hurting. Very thought provoking piece of writing.

  3. Jingle says:

    you deserve happiness,
    😉
