We set out to climb,
This mountain alone.
We whimper and whine,
We cry and we moan.

Is this too hard?
To climb on our own.
This mountain is large;
All made with stone.

It’s as solid as itself.
And taller than ever.
We fall and won’t get up,
Our selves we do sever.

One step at a time,
We climb it alone.
We never get past,
The very first stone.

The stones of the mountain,
Are made up of tests.
Ones we can not pass;
Forget our protests.

Do not lie,
Now do not kill,
Do not covet,
Yet this is our will.

To do things in anger,
Agression and fear.
The way we show triumph,
But oh, not in here.

This mountain is too tall,
This mountain is too steep.
We climb and we all fall,
And then we just weep.

But the path was cut out,
If only we’d look.
Some see it and mock it,
They’re heads they have shook.

“That path is too narrow,
Too hard yet to climb.
Whoever tries on that path,
Is wasting their time.”

So they go even lower,
To say they can on their own.
Regaurdless of the path,
The one we were shown.

The mountain is too tall,
The mountain is too steep.
We stare at the bottom,
We let the fear seep.

One step at a time,
His hand holding ours,
Just don’t look back down,
And we’ll reach the stars.

One step at a time- and one’s bound to make it to the top..!! I believe that so blindly!! Not only mountains, but such is our Life pattern too. Very vividly written My Dear.. 😀

    Happy Potluck- xoxox

it is nice to know that we do not travel alone and with companions such as He we will reach the stars

And though we fault as people always do… the path is clearly marked and it will take us top. If we just follow it one step at a time. Awesome poem Ms Elizabeth!

I like the idea of courage and climbing towards the stars. You build this theme of an impossible climb towards the top, and then in the last stanza it is “His hand holding ours” and all we have to do is trust, by not looking back down. I love it.

  6. True words…and how difficult is it not to look down, faith and trust so against our fleshly natures. In the end we have no where else to go if we are honest. 🙂
